FAQ

The questions our sleep advisors answer most often. If yours is not here, call (512) 555-0147, email hello@dreambeds.local or use the chat.

1. How do I choose a firmness?

Start with how you sleep. Side sleepers usually do best between 3 and 6 on our 1-to-10 scale (Serene, Haven, Aurora, Terra); back sleepers between 5 and 8 (Haven, Ridge, Verdant, Summit); stomach sleepers 7 and above (Meadow, Summit, Nook Bonnell). Heavier sleepers should add a point, lighter sleepers subtract one. Couples who disagree usually meet at a 5 or 6 with good motion isolation, such as the Haven or the Aurora. The Compare Firmness page lists every model side by side.

2. Will a new foam mattress smell? What is off-gassing?

Foam mattresses that ship compressed can have a faint “new” smell for a day or two when unboxed. It is harmless and fades quickly in a ventilated room. All our foams are CertiPUR-US certified for low VOC emissions, the Sprout kids mattress is GREENGUARD Gold certified, and our latex and Regal mattresses contain no polyurethane foam at all and have no chemical odour.

3. Do I need a box spring or a special foundation?

No box spring is needed for any DreamBeds mattress. Foam, latex and hybrid mattresses need a flat, solid surface: a platform bed, a slatted frame with slats no more than 3 inches apart, an adjustable base, or a bunkie board on top of an old box spring. The Heritage and Regal innersprings can also be used on a traditional box spring. Slats wider than 3 inches apart void the warranty; the $199 Starter Bunkie Board fixes that.

4. Which mattresses work with an adjustable base?

All of our foam, latex and hybrid mattresses (Nook, Haven, Serene, Meadow, Lumen, Ridge, Aurora, Summit, Terra, Verdant, Sprout) bend safely on the Lift Basic, Lift Pro and Zenith bases. The Heritage Euro-Top and the Regal Handmade innerspring should not be used on an adjustable base, except that the Regal in the Signature Suite Bundle is delivered with the Zenith limited to a 30-degree head raise.

5. How do I clean my mattress?

Use a waterproof protector from the first night and wash it with your sheets. Vacuum the mattress surface every few months. Spot-clean spills with a cloth dampened with mild soap and water; never soak the mattress or use bleach. Removable covers (Nook Basic, Sprout, Frost pillow) can be machine washed cold. Rotate one-sided mattresses head to foot every six months; flip and rotate the two-sided Verdant and Regal.

6. What do you recommend for kids?

For toddlers moving out of a crib and children up to about 12, the Sprout Waterproof Kids Mattress (firm, 8 inches, wipe-clean cover) on the Loft bunk bed or the Hideaway trundle. For teens, the Nook Basic Foam Twin or the Haven in Twin XL, which will follow them to college. Bunk-bed top mattresses must be 8 inches or less.

7. My partner tosses and turns. Which mattress has the least motion transfer?

All-foam mattresses isolate motion best: the Serene Plush, then the Haven and the Lumen. Among hybrids, the Aurora and the Ridge both use individually wrapped coils under foam and latex layers and perform very well. Avoid the Nook Bonnell innerspring for couples; its connected coils transfer movement.

8. I sleep hot. What should I look at?

The Aurora Cooling Hybrid Plus (phase-change cover, graphite latex, gel foam and coil airflow) is the coolest mattress we make. The Lumen is the coolest all-foam option. Latex (Terra, Verdant) and fibre-built innersprings (Regal) sleep naturally cool. Add the Frost Cooling Gel Pillow and breathable organic cotton sheets.

9. How is delivery scheduled?

Boxed mattresses ship by FedEx Ground within one business day and arrive in 3 to 5 business days with tracking. White-glove deliveries are scheduled by text; you get a 4-hour window the evening before and a call 30 minutes ahead. Reply to the text or call option 2 at (512) 555-0147 to reschedule.

10. Can you take my old mattress away?

Yes. Old mattress removal and recycling costs $49 per mattress set and can be added to any mattress order. It is free with white-glove delivery and with the Signature Suite Bundle. More than 80 percent of each old mattress is recycled.

11. Do you price match?

We sell only through this website and our showroom, so there is no other retailer to match. If we lower the price of a product within 30 days of your purchase, email orders@dreambeds.local and we refund the difference. Sale prices during promotions apply automatically at checkout.

12. Do you have a showroom?

One, at 4200 South Lamar Blvd, Suite 120, Austin, TX 78704, open Monday to Friday 10 am to 7 pm and Saturday 10 am to 6 pm. Every mattress and base is on the floor. Walk in or book an appointment; see the Showroom page.

13. How long does a mattress take to break in?

Two to four weeks. Foam softens slightly and coils settle in that time, and your body adjusts to the new support. That is why we ask for 30 nights before a trial return.

14. What are the weight limits?

Each product page lists a per-sleeper limit: 250 lb on budget models, 300 lb on most mid-range and premium foam models, 350 lb on the Ridge and Terra, 400 lb on the Aurora, Verdant and Regal, and 500 lb per sleeper on the Summit Firm Hybrid, which is built for larger bodies.
