DreamBeds started in 2014 in a rented workshop off East Cesar Chavez in Austin, Texas, when two former mattress-factory engineers, Ana Reyes and Tom Whitfield, decided they were tired of building the same mattress under fifteen different brand names. They wanted to sell one honest lineup, explain exactly what was inside each model, and price it without the markups that pay for a showroom on every corner.
Eleven years later we still design every product ourselves. Our foam and hybrid mattresses are made by two partner factories in Texas and North Carolina to our specifications; our organic latex comes from a GOLS-certified plantation in Sri Lanka and is assembled in the United States; and the Regal Handmade Cashmere Innerspring is built by hand, one at a time, by six craftspeople in our own Austin workshop. Bed frames come from partners in the United States, Mexico and Vietnam, and every one of them is tested to at least 800 pounds before we list it.
What we believe
- Tell people what is inside. Every product page lists the layers, the foam densities, the coil counts and the certifications. If we cannot explain it, we do not sell it.
- Rate firmness honestly. We use a 1 to 10 scale measured on the same test rig for every model, so a 6 on the Ridge feels like a 6 on the Regal.
- Stand behind it. A 100-night trial on every mattress, 365 nights on latex and handmade models, and warranties of 10 to 25 years. If a mattress comes back, we donate it to a Central Texas shelter partner or recycle it; nothing goes to a landfill.
- One showroom, no pressure. Our South Lamar showroom has every model on the floor, no commissioned staff and no haggling. The price online is the price in the store.
The team
DreamBeds employs 38 people in Austin: the workshop team, a customer sleep-advice team that answers the phones and the chat, a delivery crew of eight that handles white-glove deliveries across Texas and the neighbouring states, and a small design group. Ana still runs product; Tom runs the workshop. We are a certified B Corporation and give one percent of revenue to sleep-health research and to shelters that house families in Central Texas.
If you have a question about a product, about your order or about which mattress fits how you sleep, our advisors are available Monday to Saturday; see the Contact page.
