Description
A bunkie board is a low-profile foundation, and the Starter is the one we ship most often with our mattresses. It is a 2-inch-thick panel of kiln-dried pine slats bonded to a fibreboard deck and wrapped in a grey upholstery fabric, and it turns any bed with slats more than 3 inches apart, any bunk bed, or a tired old box spring into a flat, solid surface.
Every foam, latex and hybrid mattress we sell requires support with no gaps wider than 3 inches to keep its warranty. If you are keeping an existing frame and are not sure, the Starter is a cheap insurance policy. It adds only 2 inches to the bed height, unlike a 9-inch box spring, and it weighs 40 lb in queen, so one person can position it.
